Building an Integrated IM Process

Building an Integrated IM Process

This paper defines the key values, principal participants and operational requirements that characterize a strategically relevant global issue management process. Drawing upon experience at a leading global manufacturer, the paper shows the continuous workflow that starts with issue identification and analysis and concludes with a weekly Key Issue Briefing for Executives. Key Inputs and Outputs for each step of the issue management process are outlined, including individual roles and responsibilities. Next, four evolutionary Models for issue management appear, tracking the development of a system from Observational to Integrated. Finally, the authors illustrate a Framework for Integrated Corporate Governance and suggest the Road Ahead for using issue management as a discipline toward collaborative leadership.
